June 29, 2001, Newsletter Issue #34: Champagne Touring in France

Tip of the Week

Some champagne cellars offer free tours or tasting; some charge $4.00-$7.00 admission. (Don`t drink, then drive, please.)

House of Pommery, where 11 miles of chalk caves were carved by the Romans.

Piper-Heidsieck, really cool tour- sit in small cars (of the Epcot type, on rails) through their cellars...they have a wonderful exhibit on champagne making. Very photo friendly.

Ruinat, whose cellars date from the 2nd century and are an historic landmark. (appointment only)

Tattinger, on the grounds are a 12th century chapel and parts of a 15th century crypt of an abbey.

In Epernay, find Mercier, Moet & Chandon, and Perrier-Jouet.

Outside Troyes, the Aube region offers not only wine making but its towns follow the route of the Crusaders.
