Tip of the Week

Switzerland: Bankers, the Alps, cheese and chocolate, skiing and ancient cities untouched by modern warfare.

Two annual events that would be worth a special trip are:

The Monteux Jazzfest July 5-20 this year (July 4-19 in 2003). Besides the best jazz congregation in the world in paid performances, there are 300 free concerts spaced out over the 16 days of the festival.

The Geneva Festival is August 2-11 this year (August 1-10 in 2003). It`s all kinds of music, plus comedy, fashion, street entertainers, fairs and children`s events. It attracts 1,500,000 attendees along the harbor.

Switzerland is extremely health-concious, with thermal springs and 61 registered health establishments where you can "take a cure."

Bike riders will enjoy the over 2,000 miles of bike trails; peak season is May to October, with Alpine trails best from July to mid-September.

Skiing and all snow sports. (I once had a client booking a Christmas trip late -like November- and found that he and his whole family could fly to Switzerland and ski the Alps cheaper than what was available in Colorado!)

Sightsee Switzerland comfortably and on-time using the extensive rail system.

Shopping: duty free, of course. Popular "musts" include Swiss chocolate, clocks and watches, kitchenware, sunglasses and Swiss army knives.

You`ll get along just fine with English, German, French or Italian languages, especially in the larger cities or resort areas.
