September 14, 2001, Newsletter Issue #43: IMPORTANT Airport Procedures

Tip of the Week

Allow yourself time to arrive 2 to 3 hours before flight departure time.

Check the airports policy on airport parking. Some may have closed certain lots and you may have to leave your car at a satellite location and shuttle to the terminal.

From now on, check-in will only be at the ticket counters, not at gates, even if you have no checked luggage. This is regardless of whether you are flying on a paper or an e-ticket

A boarding pass will be required to pass through security.

For a while, it`s a good idea to verify your flight before you leave home or office.

Try to book off-times or nonstops. We don`t know how the coordination of connections will work as we all experience growing pains and delays.

-You will have to have a travel agency or airline confirmation/receipt showing "locator," ticket number and passenger name if e-ticket; or a paper ticket.

-You will need to show government issued photo ID

-There will be thorough searches of all planes and airports

-There will be no curbside check-ins, nor check-ins at hotels and other off-airport sites.

-Only passengers will be allowed to pass through security checkpoints to gates. (No more meeting people at the gate or saying "goodbye" as they board.)

-A ban on all knives and other cutting instruments, including plastic.

-Uniformed police patrolling airports.

-Searches of flight crews, service personnel and vendors.

-Checks of passengers, using hand-held metal detectors.

-Armed sky marshals aboard airplanes.
