August 17, 2001, Newsletter Issue #41: Strategy for Visiting Theme Parks

Tip of the Week

You expect craziness, and you`ll get it when you visit a theme or amusement park. BUT, you can minimize the crowds, the lines, some of the hassle, and maybe some expense by a little strategic planning.

Buy admission tickets in advance. If they don`t expire, purchase the longest duration ones you can afford to be used at another time.

Parks which are open year-round are usually less crowded in January and February during the middle of the week.

Even during peak season, Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays are the lightest attendance days.

If you have to visit on a weekend, choose Sunday afternoon. Parents with school-age kids are probably on their way out.

Arrive early and go the the rear of the park, work your way towards the entrance.

Try the new rides and attractions first when they`re least crowded.

During parades and shows, ride lines become shorter.

At Disney, check out the Fast Pass, which allows you to reserve a time period for selected rides.

Disneyland (California) has a Child Swap program that works like this:
if visitors have young children and both parents wish to enjoy a ride, the first parent rides, then shows a voucher, enabling parent 2 to ride without waiting in line again.("Swapping the child")
