December 14, 2001, Newsletter Issue #56: Plan Your Return Trip Before You Leave Home

Tip of the Week

* Reconfirm your return flight with the airline the day before you leave.

* If on a driving trip, check oil, tires, washer fluid and gas. Clean the car out, and treat it to a wash for your return.

* If you receive BIG gifts or souvenirs, ship them to yourself. Pack them well, avoid airport lugging, loss and breakage. Insure.

* If you will acquire breakables that you are going to bring home with you, pack dirty clothes in a soft-sided bag to check, and put breakables (well padded) into a reinforced bag.

* Re-think carrying very perishable food items. Holiday travel is fraught with delays, long connections, and even longer security check points. Something frozen that needs to make it two hours to your freezer, may take four in the real airport-world.

* Drivers: take regularly scheduled bathroom and exercise breaks. Take routes you know to avoid stress. Fatigue is a killer.

* Don`t put anything fragile in an overhead bin.

* Pack an empty collapsible large bag or suitcase for things that you know you`ll pick up while away. Fill it with unbreakables for the return trip and check it.

Think about your return before you depart and you`ll have the whole journey as well prepared as is possible!!
